Meadowbank gets a new play area in time for the holidays

CHILDREN have been flocking to enjoy the new look Meadowbank play area in Winsford following its official opening.

Winsford Town Mayor, Clr Des Worthington, cut the ribbon and declared the play area open at 10.30am on July 4, in great time for the summer holidays.

Having campaigned for better facilities in the area for four years, he said he was thrilled to see everything had finally come together.

He said: “The new play area looks superb and I’m delighted that it has been completed in time for the school summer holidays.

“I’m sure that Meadowbank youngsters will be pleased to see that it includes many of the items of play equipment that they asked for during the public consultation.”

The £35,000 refurbishment has seen pathways improved, safety surfacing fitted and a complete range of new equipment suitable for children of all ages and physical ability installed.

This includes a trapeze slide, climbing frame, swings, roundabout, seesaw, springers and talk-tube together with table tennis, basketball and a mini teen shelter.

The scheme, which is set to be repeated at four other local play areas, was made possible thanks to a substantial grant from the Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group (WRG), administered by Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN).

Vale Royal Borough Council also secured an £11,000 planning grant on Winsford Town Council’s behalf.

Clr Worthington added: “The town council is grateful for the help and support of Vale Royal Borough Council and of course WREN, whose generous grant helped turn our vision into reality.”
