FOLLOWING on from the highly entertaining, dialogue-fest that is Death Proof, Planet Terror is the second installment of the Tarantino-Rodriguez efforts of last summer.
And while Death Proof gave us Kurt Russell as tee-total stuntman Mike and his souped up stunt car stalking two seperate groups of women in the hottest of hot pants and using 101 words when perhaps a handful would suffice, this film is all about the action and, more importantly, the gore.
The cast is significantly larger boasting Bruce Willis and Jeff Fahey to name but a couple, while the body count is, as you would expect with a Rodriguez film, equally as impressive.
We are introduced to married doctors William and Dakota, Josh Brolin and Marley Shelton, who are about to embark on a graveyard shift at the local A&E but tonight's emergencies really are a matter of life and death.
Swamped by a host of locals with gangrenous sores and vacant looks, the couple, while on the brink of a marital split, find themselves at the centre of a zombie-infested town that's about to take a turn for the worse.
Throw into the mix go-go dancer Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan of Scream fame) who lost her leg in a roadside smash and Wray (Freddy Rodriguez of Six Feet Under), and we have ourselves a war as the former lovers Cherry and Wray, find themselves leading the last men standing in a bid for freedom from the zombie army.
It's typical Rodriguez fare but although entertaining, falls a little short of the Tarantino instalment.
Lost fans look out for Naveen Andrews and you can't fail but be impressed with McGowan's replacement for her lost leg - wonder where I could get me one of them ...
