TOFT Cricket Club has scored a major coup by being chosen to host the annual Cheshire County League dinner.

The dinner is to take place on Friday, October 5, one of two major firsts for the club being staged that weekend.

The following day, Saturday, October 6, it is hosting an Oktoberfest from 6.30pm to midnight, part of the club’s focus on strengthening its links with the community.

The Oktoberfest wil feature the Yorkshire Oompah Band, and is open to everyone who may wish to come along.

Tickets are £25, which includes food and a pint of German beer, and there will be a prize for the best costume.

Katherine Wasilewska, who lives in Knutsford and previously worked at Egerton Pre-school, has been appointed as the club’s new pavilion and events manager.

She said: “I'm really excited about taking on this role at Toft, a club which me and my family have been proud to be part of for many years.

“It's great to be back working in Knutsford and being involved in the community again, and we have some great events coming up at Toft over the coming months.”

The club is looking to officially launch its fundraising for a new pavilion at the start of next season, with the aim being to have the pavilion in place for 2028, the club’s centenary year.

“For the first time we have a marquee event at the club on the weekend of October 5 and 6,” said club chairman Nigel Muirhead.

“On the Friday we will be holding the annual Cheshire County League Dinner, which is a great honour for us, with David Gower as the guest speaker.

“It will be the first time a club has held the event, and more than 300 people will be in attendance from across the whole of Cheshire.

“We’ve had a great summer on and off the field – with the superb weather and the football World Cup – along with having 80 five to eight-year-old old boys and girls joining the club for the first time under the ECB All Stars initiative, which was a huge success.

“In addition Toft Taverners, which raises funds during the season to take people aged over 70 away for a day, took more than 200 people to Lytham St Annes in July.

“It’s such an important part of the club and the community, and as a club we are looking to focus on continuing to develop links with the community, building on what we already do.”
