THE historic Salt Fair has been hailed a huge success.

Crowds enjoyed a five day feast of family fun.

Organisers Winsford Town Council hope that many more visitors will return for other planned events in the coming months.

The annual event celebrates the town's rich salt heritage and commemorates the charter from King Edward I which granted a weekly market and annual fair.

The reading of the royal charter by the civic party on Wednesday opened the fair.

Town mayor Cllr Gina Lewis said: “A lot of planning went into the event and we’re so pleased with the results!

"We’ve been overwhelmed with the response and the feedback we’ve received has really made it all worth it.

"It was a fun-filled weekend that was designed for all the family and we really feel like it helped the community come together.

"For that we are so grateful and we hope the public continues to visit Winsford for a number of a number of equally enjoyable events that we’ve got planned for the coming months."

The spirit of the community came alive as people of all ages joined the celebrations.

Salt queen Brogan Bowyeris, 15, from Over, and junior mayor Mya Barlow, a 10-year-old pupil from St John's CE Primary School joined dignitaries for the civic opening on Thursday.

Dr Diablo’s Sideshow, Professor Jon's Flea Circus and a funfair provided plenty of family entertainment.

The Mikron Theatre company performed its highly-popular Get Well Soon show, marking the 70th anniversary of the NHS, in the town centre to sell out crowds on Friday and Saturday.

The history of the town was on display in a marquee.

A dance troupe competition was held at Winsford Lifestyle Centre on Sunday.
