MOTORISTS should plan ahead when travelling through Winsford as the second phase of repairs commence on the Wharton roundabout bridge.

The overnight closures – affecting High Street and heading eastbound on New High Street towards Wharton Roundabout– will run from 7pm until 6am and come into force on Tuesday, August 28, for a maximum of five days, according to Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Cabinet member for environment, Cllr Karen Shore, said: “The works will involve re-waterproofing the concrete bridge deck, replacing the bridge expansion joints and resurfacing. We appreciate the public’s patience during these vital maintenance works.

“It is essential the repairs are completed before the winter months or more serious deterioration of the road surface could occur.”

The first phase of the major maintenance task began on Sunday, July 29, focusing on the south side bridge (westbound) on Wharton roundabout and were estimated to take up to six weeks to complete.

For the second phase of works, the inside of the roundabout will be closed with traffic diverted up the A54 to the roundabout by the Railway Station and back down to Wharton roundabout.
