A SCHOOL in Winsford has retained its ’good’ rating in their most recent Ofsted inspection.

Darnhall Primary School, in Sandyhill Road, was visited in June and has been praised for their ‘clear and realistic plans to improve the school’ under head teacher Sarah Tomlinson.

In a report published on July 10, inspectors found that staff ‘use their knowledge of children’s skills, capabilities and interests to provide activities that interest and develop learning’ while those in leadership demonstrated ‘a caring and nurturing environment where pupils grow in confidence and are keen to learn’.

The team observed aspects of teaching and learning, as well as scrutinising the pupils’ workbooks and listening to them read.

During the visit, children were observed as making progress in all areas.

It was clear that staff held positive relationships with their students which was reflected in their engagement levels and attitude towards school and learning.

The school was last checked in September 2013 where it had improved from a satisfactory rating to achieve ‘good’.

Inspectors said for the school to achieve an 'outstanding' rating, teachers need to ensure that ‘expectations are consistently high for the most able pupils’ and management should continue to ‘work closely with families to increase attendance and reduce levels of persistent absence’.

Assuming the inspection framework remains the same, the school can expect a full inspection in three years time.
