ARMED police officers raided a house in Wharton yesterday.

Police officers were seen raiding a house in Esk Road on Sunday morning with some officers holding automatic guns pointed towards the property.

A police helicopter could also be seen searching the area at around 9am.

Police say the armed police raid was due to a search for a wanted man and no arrests have yet been made.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Officers from the force firearms team attended an address in Esk Road, Winsford, to assist with enquiries to locate a wanted man.

“No arrests were made at the property and enquiries remain ongoing.”

Shocked neighbours took to Facebook to express their fright at being faced with armed police officers outside their homes.

One neighbour said: “It was scary … we couldn’t leave the house or sit in the front room.”
