A RETIREMENT village in Winsford will be celebrating its first wedding this weekend.

Phil and Jenny Davies are now inseparable and excited residents of Hazelmere Retirement Living scheme, in Hambleton Way, will be partying with the happy couple on Sunday, May 27, to celebrate them tying the knot.

Jenny went online looking for her soulmate after she got tired going to concerts on her own.

She already escaped two close calls with online dating fraudsters and although Phil’s profile caught her attention, she was almost put off by his love of curries.

She said: “I meant to click off but clicked the wrong button. We got chatting, decided to phone each other, and the first time we spoke we must have been on the phone for four or five hours.

“We did this a couple of times before we went on a first date. I had tickets to see Jean-Michel Jarre in Leeds, so we went to see him together. The rest, as they say, is history.”

Phil lost his previous wife Sue to cancer five years ago, not long after moving into Avantage’s Hazelmere retirement scheme.

He said: “I’d go out, get to the hallway and think to myself ‘what’s the point?’ and then come back. I’m so glad Jenny pressed the wrong button on that website.”

Jenny moved in with Phil last year before he proposed and the two got married in Gretna Green.

Having just returned from a honeymoon in Mexico, the newlyweds are now looking forward to a big party at Hazelmere.

Jenny added: “We’ve had so many cards and people stop us outside to congratulate us. So many people are coming to the party, so I think we’re all going to have a great time.”

The couple say that they are looking forward to enjoying lots more live music together and dinner dates which do not involve curry.
