WINSFORD’S Over Allotments Association had a busy day when their annual plant sale came to Winsford Cross Shopping Centre this weekend.

Several thousand plants were in the town centre for the one-day sale, hosted by the Over Allotments at Moss Bank, which has become a firm favourite with the gardening community of Winsford.

Mike Allen, chairman of the Over Allotments Association, said: “It was very hot under the atrium, but we had a fabulous day. We brought more plants than ever before, and the public bought more from us. After just two and a half hours, we had sold more than half of the plants.

“Thank you Winsford, and those who came from further afield.”

The first customers arrived when doors opened at 8am, to see the fruit, vegetables and plants grown by plot-holders at the award-winning allotments.

Winsford Town Mayor, Cllr Mike Kennedy, was equally enthusiastic about the last official engagement of his mayoral year.

He said: “The number of people who now grow their own diverse range of fruit and vegetables is amazing. One of the main issues of the day I like are the questions asked by the public on growing, care, cultivation and seasonal times to plant, all answered with great knowledge.

The event raised funds for St Luke’s Hospice and Mid-Cheshire Mind, who are the Association’s charity partners for this year.
