A FAMILY fun day at a pub in Winsford has raised thousands of pounds for vital research into kidney cancer.

The event was organised on May 13 at The George and Dragon, in Delamere Street, by Pippa Day who wants to go above and beyond after her first-hand experiences with the illness.

In 2015, Pippa’s life came crashing to a halt when – unbeknown to her – she suffered two heart attacks over the course of a weekend, before checking herself into hospital.

This February, the mother-of-one celebrates her one year all-clear anniversary, after what should have been a routine MRI scan uncovered a 7cm tumour growing on her kidney.

She said: “I was told that I had clear cell renal carcinoma, and had to wait an excruciating six weeks to find out of it had spread to my lungs or liver. Luckily it had not.

“I was 34 when I was diagnosed, and now I want to raise £34,000 and lots of awareness for Kidney Cancer UK. I thank my heart attack for saving my life, and now it is my turn to give back for my good fortune and raise money.”

Pippa, who owns Just Jane Hair Studio in Winsford with her mum Jane, was very pleased with the outcome of the day, with lots of families turning up to raise a total of £3,000 for the cancer research charity.

She said: “I would like to say, to everyone that came to the event, a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart - from buying a raffle ticket, donating, performing or just simply showing your support. The pub was absolutley packed!

"If you know me, you will know how much this all means and how truly touched and overwhelmed I am.”
