A CHILDREN’S centre which closed in 2015 could be reopened to meet demand.

Cheshire West and Chester Council is asking residents to have their say on a proposal to reopen Over Children’s Centre, based at Over Hall Community School, in Ludlow Close, Winsford, to offer services for children, families and young people aged up to 19 years old.

Under the proposal, the site would also offer services to people with disabilities or special educational needs until the age of 25.

Cllr Nicole Meardon, CWAC cabinet member for children and families, said: “We are committed to giving children, young people and families the best start in life.

“The views of our residents in Winsford are really important in helping shape where services are delivered from for local 0 to 19 year olds.

“I would encourage everyone to have their say on the options being considered to help inform our decisions.”

Winsford currently has two main children’s centres – Greenfields, in Whitby’s Lane, and Wharton, in Bradbury Road.

If the proposal goes ahead, Greenfields – which is one mile away from the Over site, next to Oak View Academy – would be reduced to a linked children’s centre, offering services tailored to meet the needs of local families.

CWAC says it is proposing the change after looking at poverty levels in the area, how people currently use services, and the impact new housing developments may have on services at its children’s centres.

The Wharton children’s centre would be unaffected.

Cllr Charlie Parkinson, Liberal Democrat member of Winsford Town Council for Over, told the Guardian: “We have precious little resources in our estate now.

“If CWAC does reopen the children’s centre then it would be very good for the people of Over.”
