NOMINATIONS are now being taken for this year’s Winsford Oscars.

The annual event, which celebrates unsung community heroes in Winsford and the achievements of Winsfordians, will take place this year on Friday, April 6.

Winsford Town Mayor Cllr Mike Kennedy is inviting Winsford companies or organisations to consider sponsoring an award. In return for £250 sponsorship, an organisation will be able to lend its name to the award.

Nominations are being taken for a number of categories and must be submitted by Monday, March 19.

An independent judging panel will draw up a shortlist in each category.

A spokesman for Winsford Town Council said: “On the evening itself, a representative of the sponsoring organisation will have the opportunity to present the award.

“Importantly, the town mayor is anxious to recognise not only the ‘new’ award winners but those who have been recognised elsewhere. In other words, he wishes to bring together on one evening, those whose efforts or achievements have brought credit to our town.

“The town mayor feels passionately that Winsford is a great place to live and work and wants to use the evening not only recognise our unsung heroes, but to help raise the profile of the town, its employers and highlight the many opportunities that Winsford has to offer.”

Proceeds from the evening will go to the Mayor’s chosen charities of the Winsford Youth and Community Forum and St Luke’s Hospice.

The 2018 ‘Oscar’ categories are: Sports Person/Club of the Year; Young Person of the Year; Performer of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Community Innitiative of the Year; Trader of the Year; Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Senior Citizen of the Year; Club or Organisation of the Year; Customer Service Award; School Project of the Year; Business Initiative of the Year.

Nomination forms are available from the Town Council Offices at Wyvern House; by phoning 01606 593582; by emailing mail@winsford.gov.uk or by downloading from the council’s website winsford.gov.uk
