A SOCIAL club which had an uncertain future earlier this year is enjoying a new lease of life thanks to new volunteers.

Meadow Bank Social Club, in School Road, held an emergency meeting in April to discuss a crisis surrounding a shortage of committee members – including the lack of a treasurer or secretary.

But eight months on Meadow Bank has turned a corner, and the committee is looking forward to more success in 2018.

Steve Rigby, from the Meadow Bank Social Club committee, told the Guardian that the club now has a ‘new and vibrant’ future following a boom in the second half of the year.

He said: “Community activities, including fun days, Halloween, Christmas events for pensioners have all been well attended – raising money for good causes.

“The turnover has increased significantly, with new members joining, as well as successful snooker, angling, bowls and dominoes teams.

“Events and fundraising activities are supported by the new committee, which benefits from people from diverse backgrounds – including a significant number of new female committee members.

“Social media is also allowing the community to find out what activities are taking place and allowing the community to communicate with us.”
