FIREFIGHTERS were tormented by arsonists in Winsford yesterday as they were called to Winsford four times in the space of just more than five hours.

Firefighters were first sent to Winsford at 3.32pm following reports of a bonfire being set alight near to Glebe Green Drive.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said: “Fire crews were called to a bonfire having been set alight on a field near to Glebe Green Drive in Winsford. Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.”

Firefighters were then called to Grange Lane at 5.51pm to put out a fire in a skip.

The spokesman said: “Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish a skip which was well alight on Grange Lane in Winsford. The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.”

Conwy Avenue was the scene of the third fire.

Firefighters were sent to the fire at 8.07pm where they found rubbish had been set alight.

They were called out again at 9.16pm to a small fire on a field off Mendip Close.
