TWO children aged 12 and 13 are due to appear in court accused of going on a theft and smashing spree in Winsford, causing ‘devastating’ damage.

Overnight between Monday, October 9, and Tuesday, October 10, two business premises were entered in the Winsford area where property was stolen and tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused.

The Cheshire West and Chester Council building in Clough Road, Phoenix House, was broken into and a large number of computers, iPads, and light fittings were smashed up.

Vehicles in the depot were also damaged with spray paint.

The newsagents in Fountain Court was also broken into and ransacked, with up to £10,000 worth of what police describe as ‘malicious damage’ caused.

The thieves also stole cigarettes, e-cigs, scratch cards, and sweets.

More than seven other incidents of damage have been reported over night to fences outside houses on Ways Green.

Insp Dave Snasdell said: “These crimes are totally devastating for the businesses. Not only has property been stolen but many thousands of pounds worth of mindless damage has been caused to both the business properties.”

Two young boys were later arrested and charged with burglary and criminal damage.

The boys are due to appear at South and East Cheshire Youth Court.
