THREE goals in the last 10 minutes of three separate football matches led to a lucky grandad scooping more than £100,000 from a £7 bet.

Arthur Hopka, from Stocks Hill in Winsford, claimed an incredible £100,282 from bookmakers Betfred, in Jubilee Way, after beating 14,325/1 odds to guess the correct scores of three Carabao Cup ties on Wednesday, August 9.

The 53-year-old father-of-three gambled on Leeds United beating Port Vale 4-1, Sheffield United defeating Walsall 3-2, and Burton Albion beating Oldham Athletic by the same scoreline.

He was left staring defeat in the face until the 83rd minute of action, when Caleb Ekuban scored Leeds’ fourth goal, before Lucas Akins netted a penalty for Burton three minutes later.

And Arthur’s prayers were answered in the 91st minute, when Erhun Oztumer scored Walsall’s second goal of the night with a penalty.

“It was amazing that two of my games had late penalties,” he said.

“I was watching the results come in and then when I’d won, I woke up the missus Paula, who told me to shut up because ‘you never win anything’.

“I told her that she was wrong and that I had, and it was over £100,000. I just couldn’t sleep that night, and not much since. I’m still in a bit of a daze to win so much from £7.”

Derby County fan Arthur has had a regular flutter on the football at Betfred since he was 18 years old – and he already knows exactly how he will spend the cash.

“I’m getting my dream car – a Range Rover Discovery to replace my company pick-up truck,” he said.

“Paula doesn’t know it yet but I have put some money in her account so she can do what she wants with it.”

Fred Done, co-owner of Betfred, added: “What an amazing treble for Arthur.

“He’s taken me to the cleaners good and proper and the football season hasn’t even properly started.

“He’s been a loyal customer for many years and it just shows how small stakes can win big with us.”
