MORE than 5,000 people flocked to the picturesque Weaver Parkway over the weekend as the Off Cut Festival returned for 2017.

The music event, which is gaining a solid reputation as a champion for local artists, returned to Winsford offering something for the whole community.

Following the first festival in 2013, Off Cut has grown year-on-year, and last weekend's event was the biggest yet.

Damon Horrill, one of the event's organisers, told the Guardian: "It could not have gone better – it was wonderful.

"People of all ages were there, everyone was smiling, kids were having fun and making dens – it really was for all generations and it seemed like the whole of Winsford was there.

"Our publicity had been on Facebook, in the Guardian and just word of mouth, so it was great to see so many people turn up and make it happen."

Headlining the festival were Winsford rock band The Luka State on the Saturday, and former Cast frontman John Power on the Sunday.

A host of emerging acts and top local artists also took the spotlight throughout the weekend, while the crowds also enjoyed food, drink and craft stalls.

"The festival has established itself well and because there was no major pop acts it had a real cultural feel," Damon said.

"We had great local artists on stage – many in their teens and 20s – and some of the best names on the circuit.

"And to stage the event at Weaver Parkway – there's no better place to have it.

"It's a great space to hold a festival, right in the heart of our town, and you can't help but feel you live in a special place when you have that on your doorstep."

The dust has barely settled on this year's event, but the Off Cut team is already looking ahead to the next one.

"We have permission to make the event even bigger next year," Damon added.

"The plan is to use the whole Parkway as the most incredible festival venue – nowhere could be better for it.

"We have big ambitions for it but we have the community right behind it, so there's every chance it will continue to be a success."
