WINSFORD Town Council is looking to crown a new salt queen.

As the Winsford salt queen only reigns for 12 months at a time, Chelsee Doyle will retire with auditions for the new monarch set to take place on Friday, August 18.

Chelsee said: “I’ve had a great year as Winsford’s salt queen, with the highlight definitely being the Salt Fair where I was crowned. It’s really wondered to be able to represent the town.”

The tradition was revived by the council in 2012 to form part of the town’s annual Salt Fair and Regatta.

Cllr Mike Kennedy, Winsford Town Mayor, said: “The tradition goes back a long way.

“But Winsford stopped having a salt queen in 1938 as people started to worry about the war. I hope that someone comes forward this year and continues what is a very important and enjoyable tradition.”
