CREWE women are being urged to join the fight against cancer and enter the Race for Life at Reaseheath College in September.

The Race for Life Pretty Muddy event takes place at Reaseheath on Saturday, September 30.

With just twelve weeks to go until the big day, Cancer Research UK are calling on mums, daughters, sisters and friends to show their support and take part in the 5k, mud-splattered obstacle course.

Polly O’Gorman, Cancer Research UK event manager, said: “We hope as many women as possible will join the fight at Pretty Muddy in Reaseheath for our first year at the venue.

“We’re calling on local ladies to pull on their trainers and join like-minded women committed to the cause.

“We’ve no doubt that they’ve got the muddy motivation to take on the challenge and help beat cancer sooner.”

So far more than 500 women have signed up to the Nantwich event.

Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work relies on the public’s support.

Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity was able to spend around £23 million last year in the north west on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research, helping more men, women and children survive.

Polly said: “One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives.

“Research is very expensive and the only way we can afford to fund it is with the help of our supporters.

“Money raised through Race for Life – whether it’s £10 or £100 – will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new ways to treat cancer and save more lives.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is a women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, marathon and hiking events which raises millions of pounds every year to find new ways to tackle cancer.

Polly said: “Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course.

“Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k sprint or a mud-splattered race around Pretty Muddy, every step participants take will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

“We’re sending out a rallying cry to Cheshire women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes to sign up right now and stand united in the fight against cancer.”

Entry closes for the Race for Life Pretty Muddy event at midnight on Thursday, September 28.
