MIDDLEWICH marina has been recommended for refusal prior to a decision by Cheshire East Council on June 28.

Despite positives in providing affordable housing and economic benefits, the report says approval 'would result in a piecemeal form of development which could result in a poorly planned development.'

It also found there to be significant adverse impacts arising from the existing noise climate.

The report says ‘It is not possible to determine whether the significant adverse noise impacts could be mitigated.

‘Furthermore pedestrian cycle links, green infrastructure, noise mitigation and open space for nature conservation and recreation cannot be secured.’ The application is not considered to represent sustainable development.

Samantha Moss, Middlewich Town Mayor said: “From a town council perspective we are in agreement that we don’t want this marina application accepted.

“In theory it is a very positive looking proposal, but we simply don’t have the space to accommodate it and it would be unfair on residents.

“The infrastructure is not in place to deal with the extra volume of traffic and negatives it would bring outweigh the positives.”

The Middlewich was first announced in October 2016, but has been pushed back from a final decision for a number of months.

The plans, detailing a 12-berth marina, 137 homes, retail, employment and restaurant space, would place the site to the south of Brooks Lane.
