NOBODY appears to have 'pawsed' for thought over why or how the tradition started.

But as soon as the polls open, social media was filled once again with #DogsatPollingStation pictures.

It's become an election tradition to provide a brief break from politics on election day.

So when you head out to vote today, don't forget to send us your #DogsatPollingStation pictures.

Here's some of our favourites so far....

Some have been rolling out the puns

Others have taken the matter a little more seriously

But that doesn't count for everyone

Some look very proud to be involved

But with a large number of postal votes this year, a few pets are missing out...

And of course, it's not just dogs getting involved

Northwich Guardian:

Reader Sophie Daniels adds:

"There was only one choice for Dolly... Jeremy Pawbyn. She wants dog treats for the many, not the few."
