EDUCATION regulator, Ofsted, has taken enforcement action against a Winsford pre-school following an inspection.

St Andrew’s Community Pre-school and Playgroup in Dingle Lane was inspected by Ofsted inspector Maxine Allmark on Thursday, May 11, and was given a grading of ‘inadequate’.

The governing body has now published the report, which shows several issues The report states: “Ofsted has not been informed of changes to the committee. As a result, checks have not been completed on committee members to ensure their suitability.

“The setting does not ensure that children are provided with nutritious and healthy lunches. As a result, children do not learn about healthy options.

“On occasions, some staff speak to children in a manner that they do not have the maturity to understand. Some staff also use inappropriate methods to prevent unwanted behaviour.

“Children do not have access to outdoor play on a daily basis, which hinders their opportunities to benefit from fresh air and exercise.

“Assessments of children’s progress are not used effectively to plan precisely for children’s next steps in learning, and to ensure that children are consistently challenge. Consequently, children do not make progress of which they are capable.”

At the previous inspection in May 2016, the pre-school was rated as ‘requires improvement’ and has now dropped to inadequate.

Ofsted has now confirmed that it is taking enforcement action, issuing a Welfare Requirements Notice.

The pre-school has been given a list of changes that need to be made by June 26 and failure to comply will be treated as an offence.
