OVER Allotments Association’s annual plant sale in Winsford Town Centre was ‘bloomin’ marvellous’, according to town mayor, Cllr Mike Kennedy.

The annual plant sale took place on Saturday, May 20, and Cllr Kennedy attended for his first public engagement of his mayoral year.

Cllr Kennedy said: “It was an absolute pleasure to once again attend the plant sale. Over Allotments Association have made this one of the biggest and best of its kind in Cheshire, and I can’t help but marvel at the work that is put in to make it a huge success.

“Excellent plants with expert advice – what a lovely way to begin my mayoral year. You could say it’s got off to a ‘bloomin’ marvellous’ start.”

The green-fingered growers, who have plots at Moss Bank, Winsford, brought an estimated 5,000 plants to the town centre.

“We brought more plants than ever before, and the people of Winsford didn’t let us down,” said Mike Allen, chair of the association.

“The public were buying plants by 8.15am, while we were still bringing them to the stall. By 11am most of the bedding plants had gone, and by 1pm we had sold two-thirds of all the plants.

“It was a brilliant reward for all the hard work that our members put in to staging the event.”
