A NEW town mayor for Winsford has been formally inducted.

Winsford’s town mayor for the past year, Cllr Steve Smith, has now completed his year of mayoral office, and last night passed on the chains to Cllr Mike Kennedy.

Cllr Smith raised £5,000 for his two charities, Winsford Sensations and Bandedge Resurrected, and presented them with cheques before standing down as mayor.

Cllr Smith said: “I’ve enjoyed meeting new people in other towns and I feel it’s been important to promote our town and show people that we are proud of Winsford and the great things it has to offer.

“I have truly enjoyed this privileged position I have been given and hope I have exposed the council for the positive things it does. I’ve enjoyed doing things differently and putting my own spin on things and I hope I have left a positive legacy.”

Cllr Kennedy was then officially elected as the new town mayor for Winsford. His wife Hillary will act as his mayoress and his deputy mayor will be Cllr Gina Lewis.

During his year in office, the new mayor will be raising funds for St Luke’s Hospice and the Winsford Youth Forum.

Cllr Kennedy, embarking on his second term of office as Winsford town mayor, said: “I would like to congratulate Cllr Steve Smith on once again having a unique and entertaining year as Mayor, with the emphasis on entertaining.

“Personally, I with my wife Hilary am proud once again to represent this great Town of ours.”
