A NEW barber shop is hoping to bring some American south style to Winsford.

Patron Barber Shop in Delamere Street opened its doors on April 20.

Dean Hildrop, 27, from Winsford, has plied his trade around Cheshire for the past few years, and has now decided to return home to set up shop on his own.

“I chose Winsford as it’s my hometown,” he told the Guardian.

“I’ve always wanted to come back one day and felt Winsford was lacking something a little different.

“When I saw the shop for rent I had a vision and knew what I could turn it into.

“A lot of influence is old American south, which I have just loved for many years and always felt this look is warm and welcoming.”

The American south influences are apparent throughout the shop, not least with an authentic Jack Daniels barrel.

Unfortunately customers won’t be able to swill the popular bourbon while getting their cut.

Dean said: “The huge Jack Daniels barrel is used as a sink pedestal for washing hair.

“It is empty but is a genuine old whiskey barrel.”

Another quirky feature of the shop is its seats, which are old cinema seats.

He said: “The cinema is one of very few spaces you can sit next to a stranger and feel comfortable. Also they are a little different.”

Dean said the name came of the barber shop came from attending barber workshops, seminars and shows across the UK and in Holland.

He said: “Some really old school guys call their customers ‘patrons’, which is an old English word for somebody who goes to a place of business.

“I knew that was the name I wanted as it’s never been used in the UK before.”

Patron Barber Shop is booking only, although there is a walk in service on Saturday.
