KIND-HEARTED knitters responded to an Easter fundraising appeal from St Luke’s Hospice and helped to raise £1,500 for the charity.

During the run up to Easter, St Luke’s received donations of more than 1,000 knitted chicks and rabbits from supporters far and wide and across the local community.

Each creation was then filled with a chocolate egg and then sold for a suggested donation of £1.

Donations came in from supporters throughout mid and south Cheshire and from further afield – the furthest came from Surrey.

Carole Salmon, community partnerships fundraiser, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved in our appeal, from supporters who took the time and effort to knit a chick, to people who donated chocolate eggs and, of course, people who bought them.

“Everyone has contributed in making this our best Easter chick campaign to date. We are also very grateful to the many local businesses and organisations in the community who allow us to sell the knitted items on their premises.”

Lots of supporters used making the chicks as an opportunity to show their appreciation to St Luke’s by including heart-warming messages of support and gratitude with their donations.

The money raised will help towards the running costs at St Luke’s which is challenged to raise £8,600 a day to provide free care and support to local people.

St Luke’s urges supporters to continue creating wonderful knitted and crocheted items so they can to sell all year round.
