THE Winsford Festival committee is due to decide whether to make March Fest an annual event in Winsford.

The Bavarian-style event took place for the first time from Friday last week to Sunday.

Winsford Town Mayor, Cllr Steve Smith, was the main organiser of the event, having planned it for two years, and was delighted with its success.

Cllr Smith said: “It went really well overall. It was so tiring to organize but it was just so much fun.

“The fair ground and the bar were happy and they want to come back so that says it all for me. If they want to come back then it must have been a success.

“We were so busy on Saturday and I loved seeing people having fun - that makes it a big reward for me.

“It was packed on Saturday and it wasn’t just people from Winsford, there were plenty of people from all over Cheshire, so I think we promoted it well on social media to get people into Winsford from further afield.

“I think it’s the way forward, the way that it’s for all the family, and I’ve been inspired with this festival by what they do in Germany. We had a controlled bar and people were very sensible. We’re bring back entertainment for the whole family, I really think we did a good job of covering all ages.”

Despite the positive feedback, Steve says that a decision on whether to bring the festival back next year is yet to be made.

This is because of the uncertainty of funding, with Steve saying more support is needed if the event is to happen again.

“We’re having a wash-up meeting to discuss whether to take it forward,” Cllr Smith said.

“The free events were packed so I think if we do it again next year, it needs to be all free, but that means we need support.

“We need financial backing if we are to do it again. We need support from somewhere, whether it’s from sponsorships or from the council.”
