A ROBBER attempted to hold up the post office in Swanlow Lane, Winsford, last week, but was foiled by brave staff throwing milk.

A 40-year-old man from Winsford appeared in court on 25 March to face a number of charges including attempted robbery at the post office.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At 9.56am on Friday, March 24, a man entered the post office in Swanlow Lane, wearing a balaclava. The man intimated that he was carrying a gun in the bag he was holding and demanded money from the staff."

Staff refused and started to throw various items at him including bottles of milk. The man then fled from the scene.

Officers investigating the attempted robbery made an arrest, which led to further enquiries into a number of recent shoplifting incidents.

The man was charged with attempted robbery, having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence, and five counts of theft from a shop.

The theft incidents were shopliftings from Asda and Home Bargains in Winsford between Sunday, March 19 and Thursday, March 23.

Despite the charge police have not found any firearm and enquiries into this are ongoing.

He is remanded in custody and awaits a further court appearance.
