MORE areas around the west Cheshire borough may become dog-free over the next year.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed that it will be reviewing its Dog Control Orders over the next 12 months.

This follows changes in the law which will see certain orders, including dog control orders, changed into Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) from October 2017.

The council has several areas around the borough where dogs have to be kept on a lead or are prohibited from entering.

It has now confirmed that a review and consultation into additional areas will be done over the coming year.

In a report that will be presented to cabinet on Wednesday, Cllr Nicole Meardon, states: “The other Dog Control Orders [other than Dog Fouling Orders] impose a range of restrictions or requirements, with associated offences, such as the offence of not keeping a dog on a lead in a specified location or permitting a dog to enter land from which dogs are excluded.

“A comprehensive review and consultation in the following 12 months will identify potential additional locations that should be subject to restrictions and/or potential additional measures to be included in the PSPO.”
