POPULAR Winsford band The Luka State say they want to be ‘the biggest band in the world’ after releasing the first single from their forthcoming album.

The Guardian launched a new weekly feature in last week’s edition celebrating the ever-strong Winsford music scene, and when it comes to Winsford bands, there are none with the town closer to their heart than The Luka State.

Lead singer Conrad Ellis and bassist Sam Bell have been friends since they were 12 and used to practice in the old youth centre in Winsford and were joined 18 months ago by school friend and guitarist Lewis Pewsey.

Drummer Jake Barnabas was scouted at a gig with Conrad and Sam claiming that he’s ‘the best musician they’ve ever seen’.

The band are looking forward to growing their fan base in 2017 having kicked off the year by releasing the single Lies! Lies! Lies!

Conrad said: “The song is about my disgust at this ‘post fact’ world we live in. It’s not about any specific event like the lies around Brexit or Trump, but more the fact that people have too much trust in the media.

“We just swallow it down, with a warped interpretation that suits our own needs. Without even realising it we all want the world to be better but for own selfish reasons.”

The band have toured America, Canada, and Europe since forming in 2013, building an underground but international fan base.

When asked what the long-term goal for The Luka State is, Conrad gave a resounding response.

He said: “What does any band want? To be the biggest in the world. To play festivals. To play for their fans in countries as far away as Mexico and Australia and most importantly to have fun while doing it.”

Despite their obvious ambition to take on the world, it seems the boys in The Luka State will never forget their roots, and can often be found doing their bit to add to the thriving music scene in the town.

“The scene in Winsford has never been stronger,” Conrad added. “There’s a great community of bands working together and scratching each other’s backs. It would be nothing without the hard work of Andy Kirwan and De Bees. The recent addition of Martin Moseley to the scene has been great too, bringing a fresh set of ears and ideas.

“Our favourite other band in Winsford would be Deja Vega, hands down. They are the best live band we’ve ever seen with a huge sound. Jack, the lead singer, makes his guitar sound like a space ship taking off!”
