MANCHESTER City fans are to meet up at new venues because of the success of a fledgling supporters’ club branch.

The Mid Cheshire branch of the Manchester City Supporters Club has gone from strength to strength in only two years.

The branch now has 72 members, is celebrating its second anniversary next month and meets at Northwich and Winsford.

The success of the group has seen it outgrow its meetings at The Swinging Witch in Northwich and The Old Star in Winsford.

As a result the branch is on the move, and is to meet at the Greenbank Hotel, Chester Road in Northwich, next to Greenbank railway station, and The George and Dragon in Delamere Street, Winsford.

The meetings take place at 8pm, and the next meetings are on Thursday, January 26 at The Greenbank Hotel, and Thursday, February 23 at The George and Dragon, both starting at 8pm.

“We’ve had to move because we’ve outgrown our previous meeting venues,” said branch secretary Alan Oakes.

“We currently have 72 members, and are still growing, and new members, especially young people, are welcome.

““Our success is due in part to the fact that the meetings offer fans the chance to meet up and chat about anything and everything, and they love the chance to meet ex-City players.

“We’ve had some wonderful people come along to speak to us, and have a number of former City players from the late 80s and 90s lined up as guest speakers, which includes a question and answer session, which is very popular.”

The branch supports a charity every season, and donated £500 to The Joshua Tree in its first season.

A cheque for £500 was presented to St Luke’s Hospice for the current season, and the charity for next season will be agreed on at the branch’s annual meeting.

Alan can be emailed at oakie@fsmail.net for details about the branch, and membership costs £2 for under 16s and pensioners and £10 for adults.

The branch is to meet in the upstairs room at The George and Dragon and a side room at The Greenbank Hotel.
