WITH new bands forming all the time and being given countless opportunities to play at venues such as De Bees, Winsford’s music scene is stronger than ever.

Talented artists from Winsford are starting to make waves with the likes of The Luka State and Shakedown Stockholm being hailed by BBC Introducing, and with plenty of opportunity to catch them in Winsford and the surrounding areas, the town is lapping it up.

To introduce the array of musical talent in Winsford at the minute and tell our readers where to find them, the Guardian will be speaking to one band or artist each week.

This week the Guardian spoke to Matthew Awbery from grunge/alternative rock band, Plastic.

Introducing Plastic, Matthew said: “We are influenced through 90s music in general. Our biggest influence is definitely a band from America called Failure, but there is a massive half of our sound that is influenced by groups like Green Day and Weezer.

“We have the best of both worlds for the stuff we like, one half of our sound is really dark and the other half doesn't sound too serious which is great, we enjoy it more that way.”

Matthew is the lead singer and plays guitar and the rest of the four-piece is made of Elliot Bird (guitar), Dom Ogden (Bass) and Matt Hilditch (Drums).

The band, which started as a three-piece in late December in 2015, is excited to be a part of the vibrant Winsford music scene and when asked who their favourite other band from the area is, Matthew was keen to talk about the artists Plastic admire.

“We admire a few bands Brine, who are shoegaze band from Middlewich, are our best mates and make music closer to what we do so we would have to pick them for our favourite local band,” Matthew said.

“But we’re also big fans of a local post punk group called Deja Vega, we also really admire the guys in The Luka State for how they treat their band as a real commercial product we think it's really bold. Like them we kind of just want to be a rock band we don't think too much about the communal aspect of what goes on in our niche of music in this country, though we are obviously miles apart.”

There will be plenty of opportunities to see Plastic live with big plans for tours this year with the first starting in February.

Plastic kick off their tour in London on February 27 but can be seen at the Exchange in Stoke on March 2, The Narrowboat in Middlewich on March 4, and Retro Bar in Manchester on March 5.
