INDIE rock band Dodgy, who had huge hits in the 90s with songs such as Good Enough and Staying Out for the Summer, are looking forward to playing to fans in Winsford on Friday.

Crowds gathered to watch fellow 90s band Space at Off Cut Festival in Winsford in August and now fans of the Britpop music era will be treated to more nostalgic hits at De Bees this week.

The Guardian caught up with Dodgy frontman Nigel Clark, who now also works part time teaching music to children with behavioural problems.

Nigel was quick to point out that the band is not just about the nostalgia and has plenty of new music to show off.

“We got back together in 2008 and since then we have released two albums,” Nigel said. “We’re touring the new album ‘What Are We Fighting For?’ and we’re really excited about it.

“A lot of bands get back together just for the nostalgia and they just play all their old songs but we’re not about that we want to make new music. We’re obviously proud of our old hits like Good Enough and we still enjoy playing them but we have plenty of new music to give to fans.”

Dodgy is made up of the original trio, Nigel, Mathew Priest and Andy Miller, as well as new member Stu Thoy on bass.

The new album was released in September and has received rave reviews with NME complimenting the band on not ‘churning out the same stuff’ and gaining ‘more gravity and vigour the more they produce’.

Nigel said it was refreshing to be able to produce the album himself - something the band wanted to do in the 90s but couldn’t - and says he was happy to finally produce an album with a psychedelic feel.

He added: “In the 90s we really wanted to produce our own album but we couldn’t with the restrictions of the record deal we were with but now we have had the chance to do that and we’ve had so much fun making it.

“A lot of reviews have said it’s our best album yet and that the world is a better place with dodgy in it and it’s all been really positive.”

Nigel said he’s looking forward to Friday’s gig at De Bees – a venue he remembers playing as a soloist – and told fans to come with ‘an attitude to party’.

“At a Dodgy gig you’re probably going to get a lot of people singing along to the hits that they know and you’re going to get a band with loads of experience and who love doing what they do,” said Nigel.

“There’s no egos among us, that’s the best thing, we just all love what we do and get on really well and it’s all about the music.

“Come with an attitude to sing and party and we look forward to seeing you there.”
