WILLOW Wood Primary School has reopened its nursery by popular demand, after it was closed seven years ago.

The school in Bradbury Road closed its nursery in 2007 as a result of the children’s centre in Winsford opening.

Parents have been asking the school to reopen the nursery in recent years and after a holding a consultation, school governors saw that the demand was there.

Sue Tomlinson, head teacher, said: “Governors listened to the parents’ requests to re-open the Nursery at Willow Wood and have been the driving force behind this project along with a Nursery working party.

“Staff have worked extremely hard this summer to ensure everything is in place for September and that was much appreciated by the children on their first day, who couldn’t wait to start playing with everything.”

The nursery’s first intake this month saw 14 children join the new facility and the nursery will have another intake of children in January.

The nursery children still have to go through central admission to apply for a place in the primary school but it is hoped they will stay at Willow Wood after nursery.

Helen Tolley, school business manager, said: “The new nursery is really great, we have invested a lot into it and the kids have taken to it brilliantly since we opened.

“Having our own nursery gives the kids that continuity when they move into reception and makes the transition a lot smoother.”

Winsford town mayor, Cllr Steve Smith went along to the school where he went as a child to officially open the nursery and had some words of wisdom for the tots.

Cllr Smith said: “I reminded the children and parents that these memories will be special memories in these early years as I also remember these times at an early school and I wish them all the very best.”
