A WINSFORD schoolgirl is donating her hair to make a wig for cancer sufferers, after learning that a friend was being bullied for having no hair.

Demi Challinor, 10, will give 30cm of her hair to the Little Princess Trust in a few weeks’ time, and is also hoping to raise £300 for the Joshua Tree.

She was inspired to help out after meeting Shannon, also 10, online and hearing how she was being bullied while going through cancer treatment.

She said: “She is getting bullied for losing her hair. It made me feel a bit upset – she doesn’t deserve to get treated like that. She was crying her eyes out because people were bullying her.

“There are children around that might want wigs made to make them feel better. I was searching websites and found this idea, so I asked if I could cut my hair off. I’m feeling excited about it.”

Demi’s mum, Nikki, has also battled skin cancer, and was proud when Demi her daughter came to her with the idea.

She said: “Demi has come to me with all this information and looked online. I have then spoken to the charities and they are happy, and the school will support her as well.

“She knows it won’t go directly to her friend, but she wants to support her. I’m very, very proud of her.”

Demi attends Winsford High Street Primary School, who have also been supportive of the idea.
