A WINSFORD man who was told he had a year to save his life when he weighed more than 23 stone has made a remarkable transformation in just one year.

Nathan Clowes, 27, from Sycamore Avenue, was told by doctors that he would die if he carried on with his excessive eating and unhealthy lifestyle.

After seeking help from personal trainer Sam Jones at Winsford DW Gym and making the pledge to change his life, Nathan lost 10 stone (the average British woman weighs 11 stone) in a year. He now weighs 13 stone 3 pounds and is still determined to lose more.

Sam said: “Nathan came into the gym one day and said ‘I’ve been told by the doctor I have a year to live if I carry on going the way I’m going. So I said to him ‘well we have a year to save your life.’”

The amount of weight Nathan lost in a year was so extraordinary that social media site Facebook would not allow it to be posted, claiming that it could not be true.

“The amount he lost in just a year is crazy,” Sam added. “I tried to share it on Facebook and Facebook wouldn’t allow me to put it up because they said it’s not possible and it was false advertising – that’s how unbelievable it is.

“All I can do is give the best advice and motivation that I can but he has to do the work and he just completely changed his mind-set from the start. The battle with most people is getting rid of habits but he did it straight away.”

Nathan had one session a week with Sam and trained alone another four times each week.

He trained by mainly lifting weights as opposed to cardio training such as running and also allowed himself to still eat some junk food, still eating one McDonald’s meal a week at the beginning of his programme.

Nathan said: “A year ago I just kept myself to myself. I’d get in from work and just hide away eating junk food, storing it away and hoarding it so people didn’t know what I was eating.

“Now I’m a lot happier, more outgoing and confident. All my family and friends have just been so shocked and happy for me - they just can’t how outgoing I’ve become.

“Sam just told me to eat about 80 per cent good food but also allow myself to have 20 per cent bad food and don’t just cut off from it completely. So I started restricting myself when I’m at home but not worrying about I’m eating when going out socialising.

“I’m happy now but I will be carrying on with it. There’s no limit to what I can do now.

“It has been down to me to put the work in but if I hadn’t met Sam I probably wouldn’t have made it to Christmas.”
