WINSFORD is set to be joined by Northwich in the Eddisbury parliamentary constituency Eddisbury following the Boundary Commission’s review.

The commission presented its recommendations to Parliament today, stating that Northwich, Hartford, Leftwich and Kingsmead should all be moved out of the current Weaver Vale constituency and into Eddisbury.

Conservative MP Antoinette Sandbach currently holds the Eddisbury seat and was unavailable for comment.

Graham Evans, Conservative MP for Weaver Vale, said he would be sad to lose Northwich to Eddisbury, but backs the plans.

Graham said: “Generally speaking, it is to make sure that everyone’s vote carries equal weight. With the amount of house building in Hartford and Winnington, for example, there are thousands of new properties going up.

“I’m a supporter of the changes despite being sad to lose the areas that I will lose, because we will be reducing the number of MPs and I think that’s the right thing to do.

“However, I would encourage people to have their say on the boundary changes, as everyone’s view is just as important as mine.”

The Boundary Commission will carry out consultation exercises, involving public hearings and written representations, before producing its final report to Parliament in October 2018.

It will visit the north west on five occasions for consultation, including Manchester on October 11 and 12, and Chester on October 13 and 14.
