THE fifth year of the annual Winsford Salt Fair will take place next month and the organiser promises that the event will continue to grow bigger each year.

Winsford Town Mayor Cllr Steve Smith, who is also the main organiser of the Salt Fair, introduced the event to the town in his first spell as mayor in 2012.

Since then, the Salt Fair has become an annual event and has grown bigger and become more popular each year.

This year’s event will take place from Wednesday, September 14, to Sunday, September 18.

Cllr Smith is looking forward to the event next month and says he has worked hard to keep it ‘fresh and exciting’ each year.

Cllr Smith said: “Since I introduced the Salt Fair when I was last mayor in 2012/13, I have worked hard to introduce additional entertainment to keep this event fresh and exciting, and ensure that it grows as the town council’s annual premier event.

“We are very proud of our town, and the Winsford Salt Fair is a great opportunity for the community and visitors to come together and celebrate Winsford's salt heritage and waterways with the new marina.”

This year’s event will include a regatta, fun fair, competitions and an all new two-day craft fair held on The Marina Island.

In addition, there are army displays, crazy golf for all ages and arena entertainment on Sunday 18th September, showcasing groups and organisations from Winsford.

Boat trips are available on Sunday, September 18, from The Marina Island up the River Weaver and around the Flashes and there is a celebration of salt artefacts and historical displays showcasing Winsford as Britain’s only salt extracting mine.

Sunday will also feature the Winsford Salt Regatta, held on The Marina Island and taking place from 10am to 5pm with many activities including trade stalls, a craft fair, food and drink, crazy golf, sand art, army displays, salt pan demonstrations and a bar.

For younger family members, there will be children’s entertainer Peter White’s Suitcase Circus providing shows at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, plus additional circus stilt walking and hula hoop workshops throughout the day.

In addition to the many new aspects of the event, Mid-Cheshire’s largest troupe-dancing competition is being hosted by Winsford Town Council in The Stage Hall at the Winsford Lifestyle Centre on the Sunday.

The full schedule of events will soon be made available in the Salt Fair programme.
