WINSFORD and District Anglers Association have issued a warning to anglers fishing with ‘inadequate gear’ in Winsford waters.
Members of the Anglers Association have noticed an increase in the amount of people fishing for carp with basic gear specifically in the New Pool and Ocean Pool waters in Winsford.
Small nets and unhooking mats can damage the fish and the association’s fishery manager, Rob Ledwards, has warned that those seen with insufficient sized gear will be asked to leave the water.
Rob said: “Anglers have been fishing the carp pools with totally inadequate gear. If you intend fishing our waters for the carp, please ensure that your landing nets and unhooking mats are of sufficient size to handle these fish.
“Minimum net size suggested is 36 inches. Mats should be preferably large and padded. If the bailiffs deem your tackle to be inadequate you may be asked to leave the water. Thanks for your cooperation in looking after our fish stocks.”
