A HAND car wash is set to be opened in Winsford despite the town council saying that the plans go against the ‘vision’ it has for the town.

Plans to open a hand car wash with boundary fences and a cabin on a temporary basis on the junction of High Street and Church Street have been approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The plans were given the green light on June 6 by council officers despite heavy objection from Winsford Town Council.

In its recommendation to the borough council, Winsford Town Council said that the car wash would compromise the ‘vision’ to improve the attractiveness of the town.

The objection letter stated: “One of the fundamental objectives of the draft Winsford Neighbourhood Plan is to improve the attractiveness and image of the town, and to create attractive ‘gateways’ to the town.

“This site is in close proximity to the Weaver Valley and New Road, where the Neighbourhood Plan envisages a range of community and leisure options, including waterside cafes, restaurants and other cultural facilities. This application is totally contrary to that vision.

“Finally, it is the third time that members have objected to this application and members would insist that enforcement should now take place.”

Despite the objection, planning officers granted permission to open the car wash on a temporary basis provided that it is discontinued by December next year.

In giving reason for granting the application, Cheshire West and Chester Council said the development would improve the area.

Fiona Hore, planning development manager, said: “The Local Planning Authority has sought to work with the applicant in a positive and proactive way to secure a development that will improve the economic, social and environmental conditions of the area, in line with the NPPF.”
