STUDENTS, staff and Governors of The Winsford Academy are celebrating the publication of a positive report after a visit from Ofsted inspectors.

The academy was judged to be ‘Good’ for ‘overall effectiveness’ and commended for ‘rapid and sustained improvement’ since incorporation into The Fallibroome Trust in September 2014.

Peter Rubery, Executive Principal of The Fallibroome Trust said: “The whole community can take credit for this tremendous achievement. We are delighted that inspectors recognised the high standards and quality of relations evident in the school.

“By working together we have created the conditions for pupils to make rapid progress and meet their potential. This report makes us all very proud.”

The last inspection was held in January 2014 and inspectors judged that the academy ‘required improvement’.

The latest report means that the academy has improved by two grades in the five-tier Ofsted grading system.

Inspectors were impressed with pupils’ behaviour and pride in their school and noticed that academy has a ‘culture of improving learning’ which meant that pupils made ‘good progress in their subjects and very good progress in English’.

Teachers were commended for their high expectations and for challenging able-pupils to achieve high standards and for the quality of care provided for all pupils.

Governors were also commended for their ‘exceptional management, educational and financial experience’.

The former principal Andy Taylor-Edwards left the academy in December last year due to ill health and the leadership team were also praised for ensuring that standards have continued to rise following his departure.

Inspectors judged the sixth form to require improvement but supported the Governors’ decision to suspend post-16 provision pending a review, stating that ‘sixth form teaching has improved’ and students are ‘on track to improve the results they achieve in their academic and vocational qualifications this year’.

The new principal, Amanda Harrison, who will join the school on June 6, said: ‘My congratulations go to the whole Winsford community. I am really pleased to be joining the school at this special moment and look forward to building on the success of this tremendous report’.

The full report can be found on the school’s website.
