THIS year’s president for the Royal Cheshire County Show has been revealed.

The Royal Cheshire County Show and Cheshire Agricultural Society have selected Vic Croxson for the honorary role.

This year’s Royal Cheshire County Show will take place on June 21-22 at Tabley Showground, near Knutsford.

Mr Croxson said: “It is a tremendous honour and a very real privilege to be the first President of the Royal Cheshire County Show.

“In that capacity, I look forward to visiting as many of the Show’s attractions as time permits to acknowledge the vital contribution of exhibitors, competitors, trade stand holders and visitors who together give the Show such relevance and vibrancy.”

Mr Croxson was the principal of Reaseheath College in Nantwich between 1987 and 2004.

This followed a successful 20-year career as a lecturer in animal husbandry and head of agriculture and vice principal of agricultural colleges in Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Mr Croxson is an honorary life vice president of the Cheshire Agricultural Society and recipient of the coveted Westbrook Award of Merit in 2006.

He has also served as the Societies vice-Chairman, as a member of the directors committee and is still a member of council.

Since he retired as principal of Reaseheath College, he has been a self-employed consultant.

Mr Croxson’s extensive involvement with the Cheshire Show and wider community made him a worthwhile recipient of the honorary role, said Tony Garnett, Royal Cheshire County Show chairman.

Tony Garnett, chairman of the Royal Cheshire County Show, said: “We felt Mr Croxson was the ideal person for this role which he will hold for one year,” Mr Garnett said.

“This honorary role is quite prestigious as during the Show, Mr Croxson will be required to meet and greet visitors, traders and sponsors as well as host the President’s Lunch on the first day.

“Various people attend the lunch including county councillors, volunteers, principal partners, sponsors, committee members and the Royal Cheshire County Show Patroness who this year is Mrs Michelle Briggs, the wife of the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire Mr David Briggs.”
