GOING for a haircut as a child can be quite a daunting experience.

Michelle Gerrard, from Winsford, is hoping to change that after opening a children’s salon in Delamere Street.

HairyTales is a ‘salon with a difference’, and is equipped with lots to keep children busy, including DVD players, tablets and toys.

She said: “The idea of opening a hair salon catering especially for the needs of children came after talking to other parents like myself who had all related that they dreaded taking their children for haircuts because they found them to be frustrating and upsetting for both parent and child alike.

“As a hairdresser, and a parent myself, this theory interested me and so I experimented.

“I got down to a toddlers’ height in a normal adults salon and looked around from a small child's view point

“Lots of children cry when they are taken for a haircut and instead of it being a fun and relaxing experience like it often is for an adult, I realised that for a child, it could prove to be terrifying.”

For Michelle, opening her new salon is the realisation of a life-long dream.

Michelle said: “I can’t wait for the coming year to see the business grow.

“I have dreamed of opening my own salon for years, and now I've reached that goal, my kids joke that we got our HairyTale happy ending.”
