A WINSFORD primary school has unveiled a new allotment and has praised the Cheshire Fire and Rescue-led Princes Trust programme and town businesses for making it a reality.

St Chad’s C of E Primary School unveiled its new outdoor space earlier this month.

Miss Hough and the school’s Eco-Team, the Global Warriors, have been planning and talking about how the area could be used to the benefit of the school for a couple of years.

The project had no budget, with resources loaned and materials and equipment recycled.

Mrs Higson- Dodd, the school's business manager, contacted Cheshire Fire's Princes Trust course who saw the project as being ideal for their young people to acquire new skills.

Jason McTigue and Jenni Pye, Princes Trust team leaders, were pivotal in shaping the project.

The group, who are on a 12 week course, took on the task of renovating an unused play park at the school for a community project which forms part of their course.

They were on-site to support and advise the team on how to overcome difficulties that have arisen since the project began.

And with help from Mike Long of Mike’s Landscapes, Winsford, M.V. Kelly Ltd, David Wilson Homes, Winsford Tool Hire and Huws Gray Ltd of Smoke Hall Lane, Winsford the project became a reality.

Timber was donated to build the allotment beds and decking and the school said that without the donations from local companies and the support of the Princes Trust the project would not be where it is today.

Natalie Tomlinson, headteacher at St Chad's, said: "The grounds of St. Chad’s Church of England Primary School have been in need of redevelopment for some time as it has so much potential to enhance the learning and play opportunities for the children.

"We are very grateful to the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Prince’s Trust programme for the work completed here over the last two weeks in creating an allotment space that will be multi-purpose in all it has to offer our school and the community it serves.

"We are excited at the potential we see for children, staff, the church and wider community to work together in the upkeep of the allotment.

"The key workers from the Princes Trust have made a significant contribution to developing learning, and on behalf of all staff and governors, thank you. We are hugely grateful."

Jason McTigue, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Prince’s Trust Project Manager, said: “The team worked really hard on this project and the space is now a better place for the pupils to learn in.

“By taking part in this community project the team have learnt how to budget, plan and organise a project from start to finish. This experience will stand them in good stead for any future employment.”

The opening ceremony was held on November 5, with representatives from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service in attendance along with The Princes Trust team and their parents, St. Chad’s C of E Leadership Team and staff, Global Warriors Eco-Club, school council and junior mayor.
