SHED and gardening clubs are being given a helping hand from a homebuilder offering £1,000.

Taylor Wimpey North West is giving the money to the Neuromuscular Centre (NMC), in Winsford, for its clubs

The contribution means the NMC can work with a wood merchant to fund woodwork workshops for service users, as well as buy plants and compost for the gardening club.

Lyndsey Cannon-Potts, head fundraiser at the NMC, said: "At our purpose-built centre we have ‘Men in Sheds’ and ‘Gardening Club’ activities, which aim to engage individuals with muscular dystrophy (MD) who, due to their physical disabilities, believe that outdoor, physical activities might be out of reach.

"Through adaptations and support from others, we have people with MD and carers participating in gardening, woodwork and small DIY tasks, as well as learning new skills participants are able to meet new people and reduce the isolation associated with having a long term physical disability."

She added: "We’re particularly proud of our gardening club, which ensures the centre has lovely floral displays.

"This brings a cheery atmosphere to all who visit – and we’re thrilled that our local homebuilder, Taylor Wimpey, is supporting this project."

The NMC is a registered charity providing specialist services and support for individuals living with muscular dystrophy and their families and carers.

With more than 70,000 people affected by MD in the UK, the NMC remains the only organisation providing tangible services in the country.

Stuart Craig, sales manager for Taylor Wimpey North West, said: "This is a fantastic cause and one we’re delighted to support.

"The work that staff and volunteers does at the centre is inspiring and, if we can make sure that beneficiaries can continue to enjoy the clubs and activities that promote health and wellbeing, we’re only too happy to do so."
