MOTHER of four Jo Quinton-Harding is seeking donations of warm clothes for a collection for Syrian refugees this Saturday, November 7.

Jo, who lives in Rudheath, has organised the collection at Shurlach Methodist Church in Shipbrook Road, Rudheath, between 10am and midday.

The items will be driven to a collection point in Warrington for Refugees – Aid From the North West, a group which has been set up to organise aid from the town for Syrian refugees.

Grandmother Nora Carlin set the group up after seeing the image of a three-year old boy lying face down on a Turkish beach.

“I decided to organise the collection in Rudheath as I felt it was important to do something to help,” said Jo, whose children range in age from two to 10.

“I imagined how awful it would be for me and my children to be in the same situation as the refugees, and am hoping people will come along on Saturday to the church to donate some items.

“I’m hoping particularly for warm clothing, such as old, good quality winter coats, warm blankets, wipes, toothbrushes and toothpaste and nappies.”

Jo’s sister Rachael from Winsford has helped her to organise the collection, and Andy McDonagh from Winsford has organised a van to take the items to Warrington, where they will be sorted.

For more details on the group and the collection see the facebook page – Refugees – Aid From The North West of England - and click on the events link for details of the collection at Shurlach Church.

Further local collections may be held depending on the success of the one on Saturday, and for more details Jo can be contacted by emailing her on jo_quinton@hotmail.com.

Urgently-needed items include in-date canned food, tents, groundsheets, duvets, sanitary pads, baby bottles, plasters, first aid kits and mosquito protection.

The group said its top priority is food, and it is focusing on preparing food packs and hygiene packs for rapid distribution.

The group has raised £850 on the justgiving online site towards its target of £5,000 to transport aid to the refugees.
