A SCHOOL in Nepal that Winsford fire cadets helped complete has been officially unveiled.

Following two years of fundraising, Cheshire Fire Cadets Louis Greenwood, Hannah Wenborn and Imogen Graffham set off from Manchester to Kathmandu on Saturday, October 24.

The cadets needed to raise £3,250 each to fund the trip, which paid for their flights, accommodation and materials such as paint and equipment needed for the school.

Working with the charity Classrooms in the Clouds (CitC), the team of 15 young people and nine team leaders flew to Nepal children in the Basa region.

The CitC’s mission is to provide affordable, accessible and sustainable education to all the children of Nepal.

Children there often take care of younger siblings or elderly relatives, so generally have no education.

The official inauguration ceremony of The Shree Chandrodaya Primary School took place on Saturday, October 31, and was attended by teachers and villagers.

Writing on their live blog, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It was a wonderful opening ceremony at the school on Saturday.

“We were honoured to attend such a memorable and moving occasion and want to thank the Thulodhunga community for their fantastic welcome and hospitality.”

“The Shree Chandrodaya Primary School is now officially open.”
