A DRAFT proposal looking at how to improve the Winsford Industrial Park was given the backing of the town council.

The Winsford business Environment Group has issued a draft Winsford Industrial Estate Business Improvement District (BID 3) proposal as a basis for consultation.

The BID was discussed at Winsford Town Council’s last full council meeting on September 21.

“We must back this bid because it’s actually a brilliant idea,” Cllr Brian Clarke said.

Cllr Malcolm Gaskill highlighted the need for a lorry park to ease congestion.

Cllr Clarke, who is also a Cheshire West and Chester (CWAC) councillor, said the council were ‘looking into’ the issue.

He said CWAC were looking at a possible joint lorry park with Middlewich.

Cllr Gaskill pointed out that the council were looking into the issue five years ago, but nothing has ever materialised.

Cllr Clarke said issues had arisen over who wouldn’t fund and run any proposed park.

“The businesses want it but they don’t want to pay any money to it, so now we’re now in discussions at looking at it,” Cllr Clarke said.

He added: “I’ve got to congratulate them on this and give them my full backing.

“Also of us here should give it their full backing because Cheshire West and Chester are giving it their full backing, so congratulations to them.”
