THE second Walkabout Winsford is set to take in some spectacular scenery along the River Weaver as part of this year’s Salt Fair celebrations.

Walkabout Winsford held its first event earlier this year as part of the town council’s commitment to health and wellbeing, and was met with ‘overwhelmingly positive’ feedback.

The latest walk Walkabout Winsford will take place on Saturday, September 19, and will consist of a five-mile walk in aid of the mayor of Winsford’s charities, The Salvation Army and Cotswold House.

Ailsa Gaskill-Jones, Winsford’s town mayor and organiser of the event, is hoping to eclipse the 72 walkers who took part in the first Walkabout Winsford.

Cllr Gaskill-Jones said: "I am really excited that the Walkabout Winsford project is joining forces with the Salt Fair this year.

“We have developed a great five-mile route, which takes in the history and heritage of Winsford's salt past as well as showcasing some of the lovely walking routes you can join right in the middle of the town."

Registration is from 9.30am and walkers will have the chance to hear a talk on the history of the Salt Industry along the River Weaver at Winsford before setting off from the Marina Island at 11am.

The walk is suitable for all abilities with most of the route on a level gradient and along established footpaths.

It takes in Winsford’s beauty, history and salt heritage via the Weaver Parkway and the Whitegate Way.

The walk will finish at the Winsford Cross Shopping Centre, where walkers will be able to enjoy live entertainment from Band Edge Resurrected.

Pre-registration for this event is recommended and can be done by contacting Walkabout Winsford on Facebook at www.facebook.com/WalkaboutWinsford or by emailing walkaboutwinsford@hotmail.com

Alternatively, walkers can register on the day from 9.30am – 10.30am on at the Marina Island.
