STAFF from a Winsford pub braved a 94-mile cycle and a gruelling 8,000ft climb up Snowdon for a children’s cancer charity.

The group of fundraisers from No.4 Bar in Winsford raised almost £2,000 for The Joshua Tree, which supports families in Cheshire affected by childhood cancer.

Paul Hill from No.4 Bar, who organised the charity challenge, said he was ‘determined’ to complete a charity challenge after missing out on a charity cycle in aid of the Christie last year.

He said: “We decided we wanted to raise funds for a charity closer to home and whilst driving to work I came across The Joshua Tree sign in Whitegate Way.

“I looked into the charity more and read about the #digdeep plans for the Support Centre, and when we saw why they wanted to build it for families affected by childhood cancer we all wanted to help out.”

Initially, the Winsford to Snowdon challenge started with just Paul and his friend Liam Lafferty, but once news of the challenge spread, more and more people expressed their interest to take part.

Paul said: “The people who joined the team are all friends, relatives and regulars from No4 bar in Winsford and eventually with had a team of 11 cyclists and a support team made up of 6 vehicles.

“The support team were fantastic throughout the whole event, meeting us at checkpoints ready with water, sports drinks, energy gels and first aid. I couldn't thank them enough.”

The support team were also on hand when the team cycled past the foot of Snowdon downhill for two miles, seeing the campsite in the distance.

Paul added: “The support crew were there to greet us with a round of applause.

“The feeling was surreal, that was our biggest cycle to date and to finish it off in such a scenic setting was awesome.”

The Winsford to Snowdon fundraising crew are now planning the challenge as an annual event, and are encouraging cyclists from beginners to pros to join them next year.
